1Crib cracked after one year!Jul 03, 2008
We bought two SIMPLICITY 4-1 Aspen cribs from Target last spring for our twins. I liked the design as it converts into toddler bed. It is in natural wood color with a drop side which works well for lowering the crib.

Two days ago as I was putting our boys to bed I saw the top of the drop side cracked inwards! I can't say I never lean on the crib during those mid-night crying events, and our boys sometimes stand in the crib and shake the dropside quite strongly. Still, the crib is just a year old and the wooden part cracked??? I now worry about the other crib cracking at some point.

I contacted the manufacturer who offered to replace the part. However, they can't ship out the part until 7/7 and I will need to cover the shipping cost:
Next Day Air early am - $199 receive 7/8 by 8:30am
Next Day Air - $163 receive 7/8 by 10:30am
Next Day Air Saver - $155 receive 7/8
Ups 2nd Day Air - $113 receive by 7/9
Ups 3rd Day - $78 receive by 7/10
Ups Ground - $34 receive by 7/14

This means if I want the crib to be in working conditions again within one week, I will need to pay more than what the crib is worth ($135). I told the customer service this seems very unreasonable for such a quality flaw and here is her reply:
"I am sorry. You do have a warranty for the part, but the cost of shipping can't be altered and I am just following our policy. Please advise if you still want the part sent."

I do have 3rd crib as sometimes one of the twins is too fusy to sleep in the nursery with the other kid. However, I shall not recommend such product with such customer service.

4Very good productApr 07, 2008
I purchased this crib from a local target store at $139.99 before tax. I think it's a good deal. I've read the 1st review here and thought maybe assembling the product would be also challenging for me. However, it tuned out to be not as hard as I expected (1 hour). Maybe it's because there were nothing wrong with the parts.

Note: there are two different manuals. My suggestion is that: (1) start with assembling the drawer first (using the 1st manual in the drawer's tool box). (2) find the second manual (it's in another box you have to open all of them to find out. I couldn't remember which now). Then you may just follow the instructions. Two people are needed.

This crib fits the Sealy Cozy Rest Mattress well. I got that from Target as well.

3pros, and cons...Oct 19, 2007
First, the pros... We were happy that this shipped in two separate boxes, as it was a little heavy. This crib seems to be reasonably stable for a pre-fab unit, and looks like it will hold up long enough to be used as toddler bed. Its overall appearance is a tad nicer than some of the el cheapo cribs that we saw at various big box stores. It came with a battery-operated vibration unit that goes under the mattress, as well as a very nice mobile which rotates, plays music, and has a nightlight and LED lights which pulsate to the music. The mobile is small, but the light and shadows cast by the lights with it will undoubtedly make it engaging to many babies.

Now, the cons... My husband is a very handy guy, and it still took him hours to assemble this crib. The included instructions were inadequate, and we found that some pieces weren't labeled correctly, which made it more of a challenge. Some of the rods which supported the mattress were actually cut to slightly different lengths, which also made assembly difficult. We gave up entirely on putting together the trundle drawer, as the included pieces were of different lengths, and it would have been impossible to assemble with what we were given. I'm guessing someone goofed up on what they put in the box at the factory on this one. Also, the gate which drops down along the side of the crib is awkward to operate and probably could have been designed better.

I rated this a 3/5 overall once I was able to get past the ugly memory of its assembly...
